Optical conductivity signatures of open Dirac nodal lines

چکیده

We investigate the optical conductivity and far-infrared magneto-optical response of BaNiS$_2$, a simple square-lattice semimetal characterized by Dirac nodal lines that disperse exclusively along out-of-plane direction. With magnetic field aligned line in-plane Landau level spectra show nearly $\sqrt{B}$ behavior, hallmark conical-band dispersion with small spin-orbit coupling gap. The exhibits an unusual temperature-independent isosbestic line, ending at Van Hove singularity. First-principles calculations unambiguously assign to transitions across states. Our work suggests universal topology electronic structure lines.

Optical conductivity of nodal metals

Fermi liquid theory is remarkably successful in describing the transport and optical properties of metals; at frequencies higher than the scattering rate, the optical conductivity adopts the well-known power law behavior σ1(ω) ∝ ω(-2). We have observed an unusual non-Fermi liquid response σ1(ω) ∝ ω(-1±0.2) in the ground states of several cuprate and iron-based materials which undergo electronic...

Topological Dirac nodal lines and surface charges in fcc alkaline earth metals

In nodal-line semimetals, the gaps close along loops in k space, which are not at high-symmetry points. Typical mechanisms for the emergence of nodal lines involve mirror symmetry and the π Berry phase. Here we show via ab initio calculations that fcc calcium (Ca), strontium (Sr) and ytterbium (Yb) have topological nodal lines with the π Berry phase near the Fermi level, when spin-orbit interac...

Three-dimensional Dirac fermions in quasicrystals as seen via optical conductivity

The optical conductivity of quasicrystals is characterized by two features not seen in ordinary metallic systems. There is an absence of the Drude peak and the interband conductivity rises linearly from a very low value up to normal metallic levels over a wide range of frequencies. The absence of a Drude peak has been attributed to a pseudogap at the Fermi surface but a detailed explanation of ...

Signatures of bilayer splitting in the c-axis optical conductivity of double layer cuprates

We report on the infrared studies of the interlayer response for a series of YBa2Cu3Ox high-Tc superconductors with Pr, Ni, and Zn dopants, as well as for the optimally doped crystals of Bi2Sr2CaCu2Oz . These experimental results have motivated us to reexamine some of the long-standing issues in the interlayer electrodynamics of cuprates. Among them are the origins of the anomalous resonance sp...
